Tips to Cure Common Swing Problems!!

We’ve all been on the course, stood on the Tee or a nice lie on the fairway. Set up as normal, let it rip and then either Topped, Sliced, Hooked, Shanked or what ever else you can do when you hit it wrong. Below are some tips and techniques I learned which certainly helped with all of the above Swing Problems.

Topping the Ball.
This is frustrating because you think your going to hit the ball great but only the bottom of the club face hits the top of the ball causing it to just dribble along the ground. Try these tips to see if it helps.

1. Don't grip the club too tightly.

2. Make sure the ball is in the correct position for the club you’re using.
(Check Ball position: See image below)

3. Flex your knees at set up so you are comfortable over the ball. Don't get too upright through the swing.
(Check your Posture:)

4. You need to finish with your back shoulder lower than your front one in the follow through. Imagine your back shoulder is driving the ball.

Ball positions

Here’s a guide to the correct ball position for the range of clubs in the bag.

Fat/Duff Shot.
The club hits the ground before impact and the ball hardly goes anywhere.

1. You could be holding the club too tight.
(Check your grip:)

2.
KEY POINT: You may have the ball too far forward in your stance.
(Check ball position.)

3. Your hands are probably too far behind the ball at set up.
(Check your stance.)

4. Transfer your weight so you end with a balanced finishing position.

5. Check the top of your back swing. Check you are not throwing your wrists into the forward swing. This makes the club take a wider path, hitting the ground before the ball.

The Slice.
The ball starts to left of the target and curves right to finish right of the target.

1. Your club face could be too open.
(Check your Aim:)

2. If your hands are twisted too far round to the left of the grip, this is
a weak grip. When you swing through the ball the club is opening imparting spin, causing slice.
(Check your Grip:)

3. You may have the ball too far forward in your stance, this could cause your shoulders to open.

4. Your whole set up is probably aiming too far left of the target causing your club to make an 'out to in' swing path.

5. You may be standing too far from the ball.

If you have a real problem with slicing,  Nick Bayley promises to cure it or he’ll pay you $35.00. 15 minutes a day for 21 days and you’re cured.
